Kansas Legislature Provides training and support to help people be able to live independently. It may include training on budgeting, cooking, cleaning, looking for housing, taking a bus, saving to buy a car, and all the things most of us have been taught over the years.
Some people with developmental disabilities may be learning these skills for the first time. Others may be relearning skills as a result of a head injury or because of other conditions. Some individuals are learning how to do things differently. For example, someone that was in an accident, and has lost full use of arms and legs, needs to relearn how to cook from a wheelchair. They may need help in making their home usable in a chair.
CILSWKS refers to resources in the community whenever they are available. When they are not, CILSWKS will provide the training, always with the goal that the persons will do it themselves.
